Because Sovereignty is the real question. That is what all these peripheral things are about. That is what now occupies the Republican and Democrat parties, even though most, in the parties and out, don't know it.
Sovereignty involves far more than national borders. However, understanding national sovereignty facilitates understanding the other forms: David Petraeus is a sovereignty expert by virtue of his unique military experience.
All of the current national internecine battles involve conflict over control, and control is another, somewhat lesser, word for sovereignty. On that score let's check the present lay of the land.
In three years President Obama's administration has not moved to close the border, but brought under executive control both college loans and most mortgages. Thus, quite simply, it now controls most of the nation's citizen debt.It works daily, through regulation and Executive Order, to control education, energy production(or more accurately, suppression),and employment, suppressing private sector jobs by over-regulation, and adding government jobs: the only job growth during this financial crisis has been the phenomenal surge in government jobs.
David Petraeus has moved silently from his Afghanistan command to the top spot in the CIA. Certainly I recognize that he is the ideal choice for this post, but it also silences him on the Administration he serves. That might well be a huge loss to the nation. I don't know, and don't care, whether he leans left, right, or down the middle, we could use the voice of someone so versed in Sovereignty, national, departmental and individual.Someone who will anticipate ramifications before they happen.
He is clearly a private person, but I hope he watches carefully and will be willing to speak out when/if conscience compels. We have asked a lot of this man, only because he has so much the nation needed. He serves us still.
But his unique qualities and experience may one day call for more.
