A Question of Balance

Something is wrong with our criminal justice system. While I recognize that it is not constructed to bring vengeance, it doesn't even bring fair punishment.

Anyone who is familiar with the Connecticut home invasion that ended with the premeditated torture, rape, and setting on fire of two young girls, the rape and murder of their mother, and the near murder of their father, will not be content to see these two animals, once convicted, go off to however many years in prison, even if execution awaits...eventually.

As an opponent of the ghastly sentences given under Sharia Law, I chafe at my own need to repay in kind here, and am glad I am restrained by the legal/moral system that prevails. That being said, I don't believe much is accomplished by our present method of dealing with an outrage like this.

Re-enter the concept of hard labor. Let us at the very least or even at most , put these two to the hardest labor we can find, and keep them at it until they drop in their tracks.

If it's a matter of cost, I'm sure I can find a multitude of people, rich and poor, who would kick in for this, even in an election year when we are all going broke supporting our candidates.

Perhaps there should be a special category for these offenses.Somehow, in some way, we must achieve balance here. It is missing, and we need it.
