The Vanities of (Mi-'noot) Man

The recent Chile earthquake had the seismic energy force of one million Hiroshima atom bombs. That gets our attention, doesn't it! More importantly perhaps, there is another figure to note; the quake shifted the earth's figure axis by three inches.

This may sound rather ho-hum to you until you realize that the figure axis is not the north-south axis we think of, but the one around which the earth's mass is balanced. Aha! you are beginning to get it!

I don't want to be a panic monger, but all of us have to admit that we have no idea whether or not one of repeated quakes might tip the scale and send us to oblivion!(admittedly a worst case scenario). Before that happens we will have the repeated millisecond shortening of our days...producing total effects to our climate and agriculture that we cannot accurately anticipate.

With all this pending someday, with our obvious inability to affect the results, wouldn't you think that we would have a different mindset toward life on this planet?

Let us concentrate on things we can and must change. I have a list. It may not be your list, but I hope you have one!

You can figure out mine by coming back to greynatters!
