Country First

Lucky John McCain, he got it exactly right. That slogan says it all, and simplistic as it may sound, that is what has been missing. After the fact, some of those who could have prevented this debacle are screaming loudly that they warned us. They did not. And they had plenty of opportunities. Barney Frank and Hillary Clinton come immediately to mind.

For example, I saw Hillary on TV last night saying she had warned us and no one listened. Instantly in my mind, a picture! There’s Hillary sitting knee to knee with Bill O’Reilly in their recent interview. She leans across, grasps his knee, looks into his eyes and says passionately, “Bill, our country is in terrible danger and I need your help to warn them yesterday!”

Now that is real theater! Think of the reaction around the country; think of the adrenalin flow, the flowing votes, the grateful hearts, The Grateful Nation.

It did not happen.

Why not? I venture that it could never have occurred to her because, like the rest of those silent weasels, she does not serve the country, she serves herself in the framework…the boundaries more exactly… of a group in DC that provides the rewards she seeks. The rest of us are simply a vague sea in which they swim, there to get them elected and keep them there. There is no need to inform us…we do not matter!

Yes , we need change, but it goes way beyond who gets elected in November. The political culture is terminally ill and we will all surely see the death of the nation we know/knew unless we act to curb power and increase accountability. Term limits, term lengths, and the period between elections should all be up for discussion before it is too late. I support Professor Larry Sabato’s call for a constitutional convention to deal with exactly these things.

As for the financial debacle itself? Give Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch a call! They’ll know what to. They just left Resolution and are on their way to Texas.
