That previous start was a false start, that's for sure. Life does intervene. That said, I'll get on with this effort. From now on there will be regular postings at most a week apart.

And something has come up.

I was, until recently, unaware of Unity08. This may well be exactly what I had been hoping for... a populist movement of moderates designed to influence the sinking morass in DC. It seeks to establish a temporary third party with candidates to be selected across party lines by its members by computer(e-mail address) vote. Depending on the size of the membership, this could be as important as fireflies glow... or earthshaking. I am gambling on the latter, and looking all the while for the yin and yang effect...the potential for abuse of the vehicle in this case. Even the best ones need monitors.

I loved what I read in their material. I was reminded of the McCain/Bush primary in 2000 when I wrote Senator McCain in 1999 suggesting that he choose Democrat Senator Bob Kerrey as running mate, and acknowledging that even as I suggested it I knew it wouldn't happen. I sent the same letter to Senator Kerrey! To quote that letter - "Both parties are rendered nearly immobile by both the machinery of campaign financing and by their more radical extremes."

Today it is worse. Both parties are being killed by their extremes and this might just save them.
Time will tell and we shall see. For now, I'm going with it. Give it a look - maybe, like me, you are ready to take a bold chance. Maybe we will even, eventually get to looking at terms of office and the Constitution.
