Some time ago the author Stephen King made it crystal clear. To succeed as a writer you have to be willing to "kill your little darlings".
It's hard.
The posting below is a case in point. I have a little darling in there and can't bring myself to kill it. I have already altered other parts of the posting to correct an error developed from the the darling, and I am well aware the piece doesn't hold together. But it is still there.
I'm hoping I get the urge to do the job, but if that doesn't happen, I will have to drive myself to do the ugly deed.
One of these days it will be gone!
