I've been watching and waiting. It was very clear that neither Pakistan nor the US could win in a public murder trial of the american embassy contractor: a guilty verdict, rightly or wrongly, was inevitable. So was a death sentence.
Enter the wonder of the Asian culture.I see it happening! In a near instant, unheralded, the court "met", heard the families of the "victims" forgive the killers, dropped the charges against him, and held the door open as he was wooshed out of the courtroom, onto a jet and out of Pakistani airspace before the courtroom emptied and the first reports were out.
I love it!!! It is rumored that his release cost well over two million dollars paid in part to the families under an existing law that permits a release, based on the families' forgiveness of the killer and acceptance of "blood money".
In Asia they think of everything.
So now we can get back to Afghanistan concerns, and they can deal with their tribal areas and blasphemy law fallout, although I think I can estimate the reaction locally. More of the same!
Money talks, but never more smoothly.
Bravo to all involved!
